St. Anne Catholic School in Detail

In 1930, the Basilian fathers opened St. Anne Catholic School under the direction of five sisters of Divine Providence from Our Lady of the Lake Convent. The school was founded with the vision “Teach me Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge.” Today, students from all areas of Houston and the outlying suburbs attend the PreK-8 school. In 2006, the school was awarded the Blue Ribbon from the US Department of Education.

St. Anne Catholic School is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. St. Anne provides a “Catholic atmosphere in which students have the opportunity to grow into responsible members of the Body of Christ.” Ninety-one percent of students are Catholic, coming from 31 parishes in the Archdiocese. Students attend Mass once per week and receive daily theological instruction from an Archdiocesan certified religion teacher.
St. Anne Catholic School is located on the northwest corner of the busy intersection of Shepherd and Westheimer, on the edge of River Oaks. The school shares the land with the greater St. Anne Catholic Community. Athletic facilities for younger students include a playground situated in the school’s inner courtyard, and a large field with baseball diamonds sits just north of the school.

To apply to St. Anne, students and parents must complete and/or submit the following:

  • attend a school tour
  • birth certificate
  • baptismal certificate, if Catholic
  • first Communion certificate
  • current report card
  • most recent standardized test results
  • authorization to Release Information
  • Teacher Recommendation Forms
  • immunization records

Applicants who meet the admissions criteria for St. Anne will be invited to the school for Early Childhood Assessment Day (Pre-K and K) or a shadow day (scheduled for grades 1-8), which include parent and student interviews.

Priority is given first to siblings of students already attending St. Anne, then to registered parishioners of St. Anne attending for at least six months, and then finally to registered parishioners of other Archdiocesan parishes.

General Academic has more than 16 years of experience helping thousands of students prepare for the ISEE. Inquire about private tutoring or register for ISEE prep courses starting December 21st at our Rice Village Study Lounge.

First and second grade students spend the majority of their day with their classroom teacher and teacher’s aide, studying religion, language arts, math, science, social studies. Third through fifth grade students continue with these courses, but they prepare for a middle school schedule by splitting their day between two classrooms.

In sixth through eighth grade, students take courses in English, reading, math, social studies, science, religion, and Spanish four to five times per week. They also take PE and fine arts electives.
